Twelve Days of Christmas. Day 6 - Penguins!

I take it back about the pudding nails, these are my new favorites. They are so so simple to do and look so cute! You could also use any colour for the base but I thought I'd use this taupe/grey colour so they look like the little baby penguins. Again, these work well with shorter, rounder nails as the shape of the nail makes the shape of the penguin, just like the pudding nails. Hope you like and I'll be back soon with day 7 :) xx

Twelve Days of Christmas. Day 5 - Snowflakes

This particular nail design is inspired by our horrible weather in the UK at the moment. It's frosty and cold and just horrible! This nail polish by 2true cosmetics is the perfect icy blue to compliment the white snowflake design and makes them really stand out. The different sized glitter within the polish gives the nail design more depth and looks as cold and icy as it is outside. Hope you're all wrapped up warm this winter and I'll be back very soon with day 6! x

Twelve Days of Christmas. Day 4 - Puddings!

Hello! These are probably my most complimented Christmas nails I've done so far. I swear every person who has seen these nails compliments me on them. People just love puddings! They were so simple to do and think they stand out and look great on shorter nails like mine. The short, round shape of my nails compliments the design and I think that they work really well together. Hope you like and if you have shorter nails like me then give these little puddings a go! x

Twelve days of Christmas. Day 3 - Holly

These are my favourite Christmas nails so far! They were a lot easier to do than I thought they would be and I like how they turned out. As I said in my last post I'm addicted to these bows so had to include one in there somewhere! Looks like a teeny tiny Christmas gift on my ring finger! Hope you like these and see you all on day four of the 'Twelve days of Christmas'.  x

Stripes and Bows

I'm steering away from Christmas themed nails just for this one post. I've had this design in mind for quite a while now, I just needed the little bows, so after I bought some off ebay I decided to just do it. I think the pink bow really stands out against the black and white stripes and is such a simple yet effective design. I really recommend buying some little 3D nail art pieces. They make a simple design look really different and I always get loads of compliments when wearing them. They stay on for quite a while too with a good nail glue. Mine lasted around 5 days (including work)! Sorry about the rubbish quality photo and I will be back very soon with day 3 of the 'Twelve days of Christmas!' x

Twelve Days of Christmas. Day 2 - Sparkle

Christmas is not Christmas without sparkle right? This is a really simple mani that everyone can achieve with the right tools. I used a white base coat so that the silver glitter would show up super sparkly then added three coats of a silver glitter polish. I finished with pale blue bows just to make it even more Christmassy. Such an effective sparkly nail which is perfect for all those Christmas parties. See you soon with my next Christmas nail design... :) x

Twelve days of Christmas. Day 1 - Christmas Jumpers

Is it too early for Christmas nails? The Coca Cola advert has been on so I'm guessing we can all start embracing Christmas now. I've decided to start a 'Twelve days of Christmas' where I post 12 different Christmas themed nail designs. As you can tell Christmas is my favourite time of year and I cannot wait to start these nail designs. If you are a nail blogger and would like to join in with the 'Twelve days of Christmas, leave a comment below and I will link in your blog in my next post.

These nails are inspired by tacky, cosy Christmas jumpers. I used a deep red base and white for detailing. Festive and cosy was the main theme and I think I pulled it off :) Hope you like and don't forget to leave a comment, I'd love to see your Christmas nail designs. x

Tiffany Diamond Nails

Tiffany blue nails with glitter and diamonds, what more could a girl want? This is a simple classy design inspired by every girls favourite jeweller, Tiffany & Co. I used Barry M 'Blue Moon' which matches the 'Tiffany blue' perfectly. I then added a silver glitter gradient to the tips of the nails and finished off with a little silver gem for the 'Diamond'. The perfect nail design to match your favourite jewellery. xx

Remembrance Sunday - Poppy Nails

Today is Remembrance Sunday. A day that the whole country wears a Poppy to remember the soldiers who fought for us during the two world wars and the soldiers that continue to fight for us today. Hope you like these nails and hope you wore your Poppy with pride today.

Cosmic Nails Update

Hello there, from a very bad blogger! I promise that I will get back into regular posts but I have been experimenting with making video tutorials and have been learning a lot in filming and editing. So hopefully that means better tutorials for you!

I know that cosmic nails have been around for ages now and your all probably sick of seeing them, but I wanted to just experiment with colours. I wanted a girly/pretty feel to them so decided to use pinks and purples this time. I hope you like them and again, if you have any feedback on the videos do tell me as I am quite new to all this :) xxx

Bloody Halloween Nails.

Hey everyone! Here's a few pictures of my halloween nails. I decided to go full on gory using blue and red nail polishes, fake blood and false nails. It's pretty simple to do and has an amazingly disgusting outcome.  Just snap the false nails and glue them onto your own with a mix of the blue and red polishes to look like bruising underneath, then finish off with some false blood. Happy Halloween xx

Love heart Tutorial

Hello :) I've decided to start making video tutorials as I find these a lot easier to follow and understand. My first video tutorial is a simple love heart design. When I get used to filming and editing, I can start to do more detailed designs. As this is my first video I'd be really grateful for any feedback or requests for designs/tutorials or even some subscriptions would be nice ;) Click on the video to watch in YouTube where it's a more appropriate size that on here :)

Here's the video and hope you like xx

Natural Collection French Manicure

Hello :) I know it's been FOREVER since I have last posted (bad blogger!) but my camera decided to die so I have been getting that fixed which I should have back next week sometime. Until then I've got a bit of a different post for you. I know this post may look a little boring compared to some of my others but I wanted to share my thoughts on my new purchases.

I love a simple french manicure as it looks clean and polished and is really simple to do. I usually buy the Bourjois french manicure sets which are around £10 at Boots, but I decided to try something different and bought two Natural Collection polishes. At £1.89 a bottle my expectations weren't too high but I found that theses polishes were easy to apply and made a perfect french manicure. The white tips were easy to apply and the peach manicure colour is perfect after two coats. I would recommend using a good base and top coat to keep them lasting longer.

I was really surprised at how good these nail polishes were for £1.89 a bottle. I will definitely be buying some of their other colours. I would really recommend this manicure set from Natural Collection, it creates a polished, professional manicure without the high price tag.

Spider-man Nails

After lacking inspiration for nail designs I thought that I would try something different again. Rather than painting my usual pastel floral design, I decided to do Spider-man nails. I've seen so many other Spider-man nail designs due to the new film being released so I thought I would have a go myself.  This is quiet a simple design compared to some of the others I have seen but I think it works well. Having a spider painted on my nails is freaking me out though! Hope you like xx

Floral Mix 'n' Match

Hi guys! It's been a while since my last 'mix 'n' match' type design and thought I'd do a floral themed one (no surprises there!).  I know I post a lot of floral girly designs but I just think that they look so pretty for spring/summer, even if the weather is rubbish! And also, floral designs are so SO easy to do, it's literally just different coloured blobs, that look like little flowers.

To create this design I painted my thumb, index and ring finger nails a pastel blue shade and then painted my middle and little finger nails with a baby pink shade. I painted the floral design onto the two blue nails using the pink I used on my other fingers to keep the colours matching. I just added gems and polka dots to the two pink nails and a cream heart with gold outline on the thumb nail.

Hope you like and let me know what you think :) xx

Lilac Gradient

Hi guys, it's been a while again I know but I am running low on ideas, so any requests or ideas you have would be very welcome. I'd love to do my next design based on an idea thought of by one of my followers so don't be shy if there's anything you'd like me to do let me know in the comments and I will have a go at it for you and possibly make a little tutorial :)

I recently bought a lilac nail polish from the brand 'Miss Sporty, I never usually buy this brand but seen as the polishes were so cheap (£1.99 a bottle!) I thought I would pick up a lilac shade. I decided to use this lilac in a 'ombre' nail design. I started with a white base coat to help the colours show up brighter on the nail, once this was completely dry I used a make up sponge and painted my three chosen colours (O.P.I - Pink Friday and 'Smooch - 07 Chic) in stripes onto a flat edge of the sponge. I then got rid of the excess paint by pressing it onto a sheet of paper and then pressed it onto my nail. Pressing it onto the paper also lets you see how the colours will look together and if they blend well. A lot of my first attempts didn't work as well as the colours did not blend together but I think this selection of colours works particularly well.

Hope you like them and don't forget to leave me any ideas or requests if you have any, thank you xx

The Nails Have Eyes

 Alexa Chung inspired nail design.

I've been dying to do this nail design since I seen the beautiful Alexa Chung wearing it ages ago now. Its such a simple design but adds a little edge to any outfit. Thinking about it now I should have done little blue eyes to match my own, hah. Apologies for the crazy photos but I thought they would suit the crazy nails. Let me know what celebrity nail art you love and hope you like these :) xx

Alexander McQueen Nails

"What 'normal' people would perceive as ugly, I can usually see something of beauty in it."
- Alexander McQueen

This week everybody is celebrating Britain and everything great, so I thought I would celebrate Alexander McQueen with these skull print nail designs, inspired by the famous Alexander McQueen skull print scarves. I used a black base coat and then painted on the skulls with white acrylic paint, finishing off with a layer of  top coat. Not all of the skulls look the same as they all vary on the scarf print too which I think makes the design so unique. Hope you like and hope everybody is enjoying the jubilee weekend. xx

Purple and Silver Glitter Gradient

Last week it was my friend Stevies' 21st birthday and she asked me to do her nails for her party which I was very excited to do! She sent me a picture of her (amazing!) dress and I came up with these:

I used a purple as the base coat to match the colour of the dress, then used a silver polish at the tips, blended with a cosmetic sponge. I then used three different glitter polishes to create the sparkles at the tips of each nail. It was lovely to have been asked to do her nails and she loved them which made me very happy. :) x

I would like to ask a teeny tiny favor if anybody reads or likes my blog to nominate me for the Cosmopolitan/Next blogger awards for best newcomer. It would mean a lot to me if you could just type my URL ( www.nailsbymellissa.blogspot.com ) into the link below: (it literally takes 2 seconds)

Thank you so much if you do, I love when I sign on and see I have a new follower and it makes me so happy when I see your lovely comments. Thank you :) xxx

Jubilee Nails Feat. Her Majesty the Queen

Again, I have not posted for AGES, but I have been lacking inspiration recently and all of the designs I have been coming up with were a little bit crap. So seeing as everybody is going jubilee crazy I thought I'd try my own jubilee nail art. I admit, my painting looks nothing like the Queen but I spent so long on it that I just gave in after a while before I went crazy!

I hope everybody enjoys the jubilee weekend, I'd love to hear what you're all doing to celebrate :) xx

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!

After watching one of my favorite childhood films again last night, I decided to create some Beetlejuice nails. I love the thick black and white stripes from his most famous outfit and think the green hair stands out against it well. Hope you like and sorry about the lack of images but my battery died and I'm too tired to wait for it to charge. I think it looks good in black and white, so added the same image in black and white.
